New Year, Same Old Mask: How to Show Your Skin Some Love

Well, we were all more than ready to say good riddance to 2020, and hello 2021!  Still, here we are in January and it’s more COVID.

Fear not, with the new year we can at least start fresh and get that gorgeous glow back. At Boise Image, we’re here to do exactly that!

COVID-19 created some skin care challenges thanks to mandatory face masks. And unfortunately, as much as we want to burn our masks for good, they probably aren’t going anywhere, at least not for the beginning of 2021. But that’s okay, neither your skin nor appearance has to suffer.

New Year’s resolutions aren’t just for eating better and losing weight. Your skin deserves a little love in the new year as well. Because of having to wear masks, it’s even more important to take good care of your skin. Here are a few skin care resolutions to stick to in 2021 to help keep your skin looking fabulous.

Cleanse, Moisturize, Repeat

With a new year starting, it’s the perfect time to create good habits. Cleansing your face should be a priority – morning and night. No more sleeping in your makeup! When you wake up start your day with a clean face. Before putting makeup on cleanse and moisturize. Cleansing removes bacteria while moisturizing helps to act as a barrier not only from outside dirt and pollution but from your mask. Select a cleanser and moisturizer that’s made for your skin type. This allows you to target specific skin care concerns.

Don’t Pick at Your Maskne

COVID-19 has changed our appearances by not only hiding most of our faces but for some of us by leaving a few extra blemishes. Maskne refers to acne caused by wearing a mask. Yes, it’s embarrassing but remember, you’re not alone. Whether your blemishes are a direct result of a mask or just normal acne don’t pick at them. Get in the habit this new year and be kind to your skin. Acne is normal. If you pick you run the risk of doing further damage to your skin and possibly causing lasting scars. Consider a chemical peel or facial. Boise Image has a variety of skin care treatments that will pamper your skin and erase the remnants of COVID-19 from your complexion leaving your skin smooth, soft, and glowing.

Wash and Replace Your Masks Frequently

Masks aren’t going anywhere so we need to make the most of them. Make sure your masks are clean. It’s important to wear a clean mask not just for preventing the virus but for maintaining healthy skin. A dirty mask contains bacteria and grime that can clog your pores. Pack a few extra masks to swap out throughout the day. Have fun with the mandate and pick masks that express your personality. If you have to wear them, you might as well have fun.

Don’t let the lingering pandemic get you down. Ring in the New Year with a skin care routine that’s for sure to improve your appearance – mask or no mask.
